Jump Conference 2019

The Jump Team hosted our 5th annual children’s ministry conference on Saturday 23rd March at Bridge of Don Baptist Church. This year our theme was ‘Jump in Together – Families of Faith’ and our main speaker was the wonderful Lisa Lyall. To find out more about this day read on below!

As in previous years, we had a wide selection of seminars on offer, with something for everyone! We also had a resource area featuring a variety of different organisations, a great range of refreshments and lunch during the breaks in the day, and during our main sessions we took time to worship together as well as hear from Lisa. Here is a look at what workshops we had this year:

Jen Robertson (Scottish Bible Society) – Bible Engagement as a Church Family

“The story of the Bible has been passed on for countless generations, long before anyone held a printed book in their hands! What will that “passing on” look like in a culture where our lived experiences, ways of learning, reflecting and discovering are markedly different from previous generations? We need to be creative, courageous and faithful as we find ways that help everyone be part of God’s great story. This seminar will look at current research and how that can help us at a very practical level to work out what engaging with the Bible might look like in our families and churches.”

Matthew Morgan (Peterhead AoG) – Reaching Out to Families in the Community

“Matthew Morgan and his family have been leading Mega Kids club for almost 21 years in Peterhead. They have a team which has grown to over 55 people and they see on average 180 children at the club weekly, and Matthew is also in 14 schools per month. Based on this experience, Matthew will share stories and practical advice about how to go about outreach in the community.”

Sue Thomson & Anna Riach (Jump Team/Parenting For Faith – BRF) – Key Tools to Raise God-Connected Kids

“Let’s make more space in our tool belt to encourage our children in their faith! We’ll look together at 5 tools we can use to help children to grow in their faith. This session will be especially good for parents but also relevant for children’s work volunteers. We’ll have a chance to discuss and share together practical examples to inspire and strengthen our children in their faith. Sue and Anna will host this workshop using resources from ‘Parenting for Faith’ (BRF).”

Gareth Hillier (Care for the Family) – The Kitchen Table Project

“At the heart of the Church is a ticking time-bomb. It is estimated that only 50% of children with Christian parents grow up to have a personal faith of their own as adults. Parents are the greatest influence in their children’s lives – so what can we do as churches, to equip and support parents to build and nurture faith at home with their children?”

Cheri Young & Susie Ford (Scripture Union Scotland) – Praying with Kids

“Are your kids bored with prayer time? Cheri and Susie are the Regional Workers for Scripture Union Scotland in The North East and Dundee, where they help coordinate children’s and youth work in SU school groups, camps and events. This workshop will be a fun, hands on approach to prayer, as we share ideas and activities to help kids better understand and engage in conversation with God.”

Andy Hayes (Bridge of Don Baptist Church) – Family in the Bible

“Andy Hayes is a pastor a Bridge of Don Baptist Church. He has a keen interest in discipleship and a love to see folk explore God’s word for themselves and grow deeper in their faith. This interactive cafe-style workshop is an opportunity for you to join Andy in looking at the theme of family in the Bible by digging deeper into the passages the main speaker will be sharing from.”
