The 4th annual Jump Conference is taking place on Saturday April 28th 2018, and we would love to see you there! This is a day for all those involved in raising children in faith, be it as church workers, volunteers, teachers, parents, or in some other way. Our theme this year is ‘God’s Story, Our Story, My Story’ and we will be exploring together how we can bring the Bible to life for our children and help them to understand their place in God’s Kingdom.
Our main speaker this year is acclaimed children’s author and performance storyteller Bob Hartman. Bob has written over sixty books for children, including the hugely popular Lion Storyteller books, the Telling the Bible series and the highly praised picture books The Wolf Who Cried Boy, Dinner in the Lions’ Den and The Three Billy Goats’ Stuff. During the conference this year Bob will be speaking in our main sessions and unpacking our theme for the day, as well as leading a practical storytelling workshop.
In addition to Bob’s workshop, we will have a wide selection of seminars on offer, and we trust that there truly will be something for everyone! We’ll also have a resource area featuring a variety of different organisations, we’ll provide refreshments and lunch during the breaks in the day, and during our main sessions we welcome back Ranan to lead our times of worship. We are so looking forward to what God has in store for us at this year’s conference and we do hope you are able to join us on the day.

Here are some more details about each of the workshops available on the day:
Practical Storytelling Techniques (Bob Hartman) With professional author and storyteller Bob Hartman, we will look both at the philosophy behind storytelling and talk about practical tips and techniques to try out in your context!
Communicating the Gospel with Children (Lisa Lyall) As children’s workers, it’s important to know how to share the gospel in a way children can grasp. Lisa will share about how we can communicate through stories and illustrations, ways to empower children to discover who Jesus is for themselves and how to partner with parents in dealing with faith at home.
Praying With Children (Heather Blair) This will be an interactive workshop looking at ways we can pray with our children in a life changing way. We will look at the importance of an active prayer life which we can model for the children, explore practical examples and take time to discuss new ways to pray with children.
30 Ideas in 30 Minutes (JUMP Team) It may sound ambitious, but this workshop aims to give you 30 great children’s ministry ideas in just 30 minutes! Every idea has been tried, tested and loved by our team in our own ministries. We will be sharing our favourite resources, games, memory verse activities, behaviour management strategies, intergenerational tips, crafts, bible engagement and storytelling methods, warm-up ideas and prayer activities.
Panel Discussion: Intergenerational Ministry (Bob Hartman, Lisa Lyall, Dottie Plummer, Vijay Pillai) Are you keen to see your church become more intergenerational? For youth of all ages to receive encouragement and support from older role models, and for the whole church to grow in faith as one church family? Come and hear good news stories of how others ‘do church together’ and ask your own questions to our experienced panel.
Leading from the Front (Sarah Chirnside, Archie McBean)Getting in front of any group – even a group of kids – can be a bit daunting! This seminar will give you tools and tips for how to lead from the front, whether you have 8 kids… or 100! Get tools and tips for how to engage a group, to present clearly and confidently, and how to make Bible stories and lessons come alive!
“We’ve Told the Story; Now What?” (Sue Thomson) Packed with great ideas and take-aways, Sue will be sharing simple activities that can be used with any Bible story. Learn methods to encourage good discussion and equip children to discover God in the Bible for themselves.
